GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT LIFT CHAIRS

A lift chair is configured to elevate people from a seated position. All that is required is the push of a button and the user will be lifted to a standing position or recline to a position of rest.

Types of lift chair

Categorization of lift chairs is done based on the degree of recline they are capable of reaching. They are also differentiated based on the position of the footrest and recline mechanism. Based on this lift chairs can be categorized into three which are two-position, three-position, and infinite-position.

A two-position lift chair has a reclining range of 45 degrees which is a convenient position for a lot of people to watch the TV or read. On the other hand, a three-position lift chair can recline to an almost flat position. It is also capable of stopping at any recline angle in between. This means you can comfortable take a nap in this chair and also watch TV or read a novel.

Infinite lift chairs are also referred to as zero gravity or full recline chairs are capable of reclining into a flat position which is tantamount to resting your back against the floor. There are a few models of infinite lift chairs capable of lifting the feet of an individual above the head into the Trendelenburg position or lift the feet of the person above their heart in the zero gravity position.

Cost of a lift chair

Two-position lift chairs are relatively less expensive than others and prices start from $600. Three-position lift chairs cost from $650. Infinite lift chairs are the most expensive of the three and this is not unexpected. It costs from $1,100. The price is often influenced by the choice of upholstery

Maintaining a lift chair

It is important to maintain a lift chair for safety, durability, and longevity. Check and carry out frequent inspection of wiring harnesses for damage, signs of corrosion, or frays. To service the chair, unplug it and reach out to the local authorized dealer from your manufacturer. You should also check the fabrics from time to time for pulls, rips, or tears. The owner’s manual should provide more insight into cleaning and maintenance of your lift chair.

To clean a lift chair, you may want to use a mild fabric cleaner. You should make sure liquid does not come in contact with any electrical part or component. Do not attempt to clean the chair while it is plugged. Go through the owner’s manual to be sure that the cleaning material will not have a negative effect on the fabric or upholstery.

Features of a lift chair

i.          Backrests: There are several backrest options. They include pillow back, split back, and button back. The obvious difference between the backrest styles is physical appearance and looks. It is all about what blends with the decor of the home very well. Button back is usually firmer and they are common in couches and chairs. The button back design involves sewing buttons into the backrest at intervals.

ii.          Controls: You will most likely find a hand control on the right of a lift chair very close to the armrest. These hand controls are made up of up and down buttons and there is need for constant pressure. Pressing the “up” button down makes the chair move from a recline to a seated position before it eventually reaches a lift position where the feet of the user will be on the ground so that he/she can stand up from the chair. The hand control also orchestrates heat and massage.
